My name is Vageesha Herath. I am currently working towards obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry with the hopes of entering the field of medical research. I was accepted to the Crossroad health Center VIP program over the summer of my Sophomore year.
Looking back at my experiences at Crossroad health center, I have learned both practical and theoretical skills that are useful in the field of patient care. I appreciate being given the opportunity to help the underserved patient population in the Cincinnati area. One of the most important skills that I was able to hone through my experience was ability to successfully make referrals for patients. I was also able to understand the inner workings of health insurance and the steps used to reach both patients and healthcare facilities.
One of the most eye-opening projects I was able to be part of was the third rotation project as a VIP. I partnered with the CHEP program at Crossroad Health center, where I worked towards supplying menstrual hygiene products. I am currently in the process of reaching out to non-profit organization and manufacturing companies in the Cincinnati area with the objective of requesting donations.
Being part of the Crossroad Health Center VIP program has helped me grow, both personally and professionally. I hope to serve the Cincinnati community to the best of my abilities through hard work and dedication.
