Being a part of a community is something I have always cherished and appreciated. Going into this internship I would have never imagined the amount of love and support I would feel from not only the other VIPs and leaders but also the community of health care workers and patients. There are so many aspects of our lives that are constantly looked over in our day to day routines. However, this opportunity has immensely opened my eyes to seeing the best in everyone and to never take for granted the opportunities I have. People are so grateful for the help and services we offered but I feel like I got more from them than they did from me. Making reminder and referral calls were my favorite part due to the interactions and the weights being lifted off our patients shoulders by decreasing the amount of stress and work that they have to do in order to get their utmost quality of health care.
Growing up, I have always been taught that health care is a whole team. I have truly witnessed this in the tightknit communication within the community at Crossroads. Not only did I meet a lot of new people this rotation I have made many lifelong connections with the staff as well as other VIPs. Going into this I knew I wanted to go into the medical field and also that becoming a nurse is something that I am aiming for. I learned so much during these two rotations, from shadowing physicians and nurse practitioners, interacting with MAs and nurses, and making calls I have a newfound appreciation for all of the members at Crossroads.
