#theVIPexperience Post #171: Jon Zink

Looking back at my experience at Crossroad Health Center so far, I could offer many pieces of advice for new Volunteer Interns coming into the program. I’d like to focus on one of those for this post. The first of which is to be proactive in your experience. This program offers many opportunities to explore your interests, improve the program, and express your ideas. If you encounter a situation that you haven’t been trained to handle, ask someone for help, and do your best to solve the problem. This gives you an opportunity to open up ways that we can help people as interns, which the program is always looking for. In addition, put in a good amount of time considering what you want to do for your third rotation project, as this is a wonderful opportunity to leave your mark on the CVIP program. To use a cliche statement, the program is what you make it. You could easily show up to each of your shifts, make a few calls, and go home. You will soon look back at your experience and realize you haven’t got much out of it. Crossroad gives you as a volunteer intern every opportunity to go out and make a difference, connect with people, and learn what it means to work in a health center. That is what you should look forward to as a part of the CVIP.
