#theVIPExperience Post #67: Priyanka Vemuru

As a pre-med student at the University of Cincinnati, I was aware of the Crossroad Health Center VIP program from the start. Current members of my program pushed me to apply by raving about their experiences with the program and facility. Honestly, I can say that I am so grateful that I took this opportunity. The VIP program has positively affected me in ways I was not even expecting when I initially started. Not only was I able to get firsthand experience working alongside patients and providers, but I was also exposed to parts of the healthcare field that I had no idea existed. This experience has made me more open-minded and has diversified my viewpoint, especially when it comes to healthcare barriers and the difficulties that can arise as people attempt to overcome them. My knowledge of the healthcare field was expanded as a result of this experience because I know every member in a healthcare team’s functionality and importance. From patient to provider to patient representative to nurse to volunteer and everybody in between, all team members are essential when it comes to creating positive health care experiences. My time as a VIP has taught me so much already: I have gained friends, knowledge, and invaluable experience. I am excited to see what the future holds for both me and this program.
