#theVIPexperience Post #82: Thu Nguyen

More than a destination at the end of the day, community is a place where people want to feel safe and at home. The vitality of the community depends on the active participation of those involved, and the passion and thought behind every action. Crossroads is a community and at Crossroads, VIPs are granted the privilege and opportunity to reach out to patients, be more understanding of the barriers to healthcare that they face, and use resources to increase the accessibility of care to those who need it. Through these experiences, I have been able to witness firsthand the struggles that these individuals face and how it affects them at the individual level as well as their loved ones. The VIP Program does an amazing job with helping patients overcome their transportation, financial, and personal struggles that often can deter them from receiving the quality healthcare that everyone deserves. This internship has also given me the opportunity to work alongside fellow VIPs and combine our knowledge and strengths to ensure the patient receives everything they need.
It is incredibly moving to see physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants, and everyone else in the clinic work together and dedicate their time to improving the quality of healthcare for these patients in this community. This collaboration of efforts is how the community thrives and delivers successful health outcomes. My time here at Crossroads has been an exceptionally humbling experience, and I often leave the clinic feeling accomplished that I was able to help even one person. I feel very blessed to be a part of something that has such a deep impact on the lives of others and has also had a profound impact on me.
