#theVIPexperience Post #142: Keerthi Jonnala

Working with Crossroad Health Center has opened my eyes to so much about the impact of healthcare in a community, and how Crossroad has helped individuals and families. I think that the VIP program has been such an interesting and amazing piece of Crossroad Health Center, where I can see the true impact it has made and how it has changed how I interact with patients in a healthcare setting. As my first rotation was still during the COVID-19 pandemic and my second rotation was the first rotation I have done in person, I have been able to see the differences in talking to patients by both the telephone and talking to them in person, and also appreciate how both can help patients in different ways. During my first rotation overall, I was able to talk to patients remotely where I was able to talk to different patients and how to get them access to healthcare without meeting them and being able to talk to them in person, which construed some difficulties, but also was able to talk to many patients overall. In my second rotation, I was able to start talking to patients in person and being able to see the doctor-patient interaction firsthand and how they are able to talk about why the patient needs the specific referral, which allows me to help the patient find an appointment. I have genuinely enjoyed working in this healthcare atmosphere, and feel that I am continuing to learn more.
