theVIP Experience Post #220 - Asfand Khan

"My time at Crossroad Health Center has been an enriching and rewarding experience. I first discovered Crossroad through a repost on Instagram, and applying has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. From the beginning, I felt welcomed into an environment that prioritizes both patient care and professional growth, giving me countless opportunities to learn and contribute.
During my rotation, I’ve worked directly with patients, helping them schedule their referrals, and it's been incredibly fulfilling to see how my efforts support their healthcare journeys. The chance to make a tangible difference, even in these small ways, has reaffirmed my passion for healthcare. The staff at Crossroad have been exceptionally supportive, creating a professional atmosphere where I’ve felt comfortable to ask questions and grow.
One of the most valuable aspects of this rotation has been the opportunity to shadow physicians. Seeing firsthand how they approach patient care, make clinical decisions, and build relationships with patients has been eye-opening. I’ve gained insight into what it means to be a compassionate, patient-centered doctor, which aligns perfectly with my own career aspirations.
In addition to shadowing, I’ve also had the chance to develop strong communication skills, learning how to engage with patients in a professional and empathetic manner. This has taught me the importance of patience, understanding, and building trust in the physician-patient relationship.
Additionally, I’ve acquired essential skills in data entry and using healthcare systems like RedCap and Athena. These technical skills, combined with the practical experience of interacting with patients, have given me a well-rounded understanding of the day-to-day operations in a healthcare setting.
Overall, my time at Crossroad has solidified my desire to become a physician. I am grateful for the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally, and I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills I’ve gained in my future career in medicine".
