#theVIPexperience Post #203:Esha Reddy

"Beginning my journey as a VIP during my second year of college, my time so far at Crossroads has been transformative. It has provided me with a deeper understanding of the impact of social determinants of health and health disparities on our patient population. Simultaneously, my admiration for healthcare providers has grown, solidifying my dedication to the field.

The diverse and supportive community of providers at Crossroads plays a pivotal role in ensuring that members of our community have access to essential healthcare services. Through volunteering, I have gained a profound appreciation for the teamwork and collaboration required to address the complex needs of our patients.

My time at Crossroad has shed light on the significant barriers many patients face in accessing timely care. From enduring lengthy appointment wait times to grappling with transportation and insurance issues, the challenges are manifold. Observing these struggles has underscored the need for systemic change and emphasized the importance of community outreach initiatives  Despite these obstacles, the positive interactions shared with patients have been incredibly rewarding. Even in my capacity as a volunteer, being able to alleviate some of their burdens and enhance their quality of life has been profoundly fulfilling. These moments serve as reminders of the essential role healthcare workers and volunteers play in serving their communities.

Reflecting on my experience at Crossroad, I am grateful for the invaluable skills I’ve gained. It has heightened my awareness of healthcare settings, reaffirmed the importance of community health initiatives, and underscored the necessity of addressing the needs of underserved individuals within our healthcare system. This transformative experience has reinforced my commitment to pursuing a career as a healthcare professional dedicated to aiding those in need.

Furthermore, my time at Crossroad has instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and resilience, qualities I believe are essential for navigating the complexities of healthcare. As I continue on my journey, I am inspired to advocate for equitable healthcare access and strive to make a difference in the lives of our communities".
